CASSAVA IN SOUTH AMERICA A PLANT BREEDER'S VIEWPOINT

South America is responsible for about half of total world production of cassava.
Productivity per hectare of the crop has deteriorated constantly in the continent in the last
20 years. The causes of this deterioration and a proposal for a plant breeding approach are
discussed.
