THE wide area of adaptation of Pennisetum typhoides Stapf and Hubb., cultivated
in India from the latitudes of BoN to 32°N, from the arid regions of Rajasthan
to the fertile Indo-Gangetic belt, and its superior performance even under very
low fertility has permitted the accumulation of diverse gene complexes in the
cultivated populations.
