INDUCED VARIABILITY FOR FLOWERING, SEED WEIGHT AND OIL CONTENT IN PARENTAL LINES OF SUNFLOWER HYBRID BSH-l

Published on

Chemical and physical mutagens were employed in parental lines of sunftower hybrid BSH·l to
bring about synchronous nowering, to improve test weight and on content. The nlutagenic
treatments significantly enlarged variability for days to Dowering, test weJabt, and oil content in
M2 and M3 generations or the parental Unes 11A·234 and RIIA·274. Early and late Dowering
mutants were isolated
in these lines. In all mutagenic treatments, the mean test weight shifted in
positive direction. The chemical EMS
was more ertective than gamma rays in creating a wider
J'llJl&e for test weight.
The variability aenerated ror 00 content in the parental Unes provided scope
for selection of high-oO mutants. The utOity of the improved Unes isolated
hi breedlna has been
diseussed.
