Dr. Rajappa Janyanaik Joga. accomplished his PhD (Plant Genetic Resources) from in 2013. He is working as a Scientist at ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam (Barapani), Meghalaya since 2013. He also has research work experience of 6-years in Biotechnology Industry, wherein he was involved inc Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi ustom research projects onGenetic Purity testing, Marker assisted selection screening, DNA Sequencing and also on Genetic Engineering of Yeast for quality product of fermentation. At ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, he is associated with research work related to development of self-sustainable integrated farming system through crop, live stock and forestry integrations under rainfed condition for productivity enhancement, Improvement of jhum farming for natural resource conservation and livelihood security in Northeast Indian Hill region.

He is presently involved in research work related to harvesting, processing and value addition of natural resins and gums from Pinus kesia in Meghalaya, Exploration and Collection, Genetic resource assessment, taxonomy, molecular characterization, Insitu on-farm conservation, utilization and value addition of wild Banana genetic resources of Northeast Indian region. He has around 20 publications including 8 research papers in journals of national and international repute besides ten abstracts and two posters. He has also given two plenary talks in national conferences on subjects related to genetic resources of Wild Musa of Northeast Indian region. His current work focuses on various PGR aspects of Musa germ plasm of Northeast India wherein he has collected more than 130 accessions of wild Musa from various remote localities of Northeast India for identification, characterization, conservation and value addition.

Considering all his achievements and outstanding contributions in the field of Agriculture (Plant Genetic Resources) the BOARD OF AWARDS of the ISGPB has recommended his name for the Harbhajan Singh Memorial Award 2019 as such the Academy confers upon him the same today on the14th December2019
