Born in Kolar district
of Karnataka, on 01 June, 1983, Dr. Gopalareddy. K. completed his Bachelor's
degree in 2006 & Master degree in 2008 from University of Agricultural Sciences,
Bangalore and Doctorate degree in Genetics from ICAR-Indian Agricultural
Research Institute, New Delhi in 2016. He started his professional career as
Scientist at Indian Institute of Wheat & Barely Research, Karnal in
2015.Subsequently he joined as Scientist, ICAR-Sugarcane Breeding Institute,
Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu in 2021.
Dr. Reddy has
significantly contributed to the field of wheat biofortification and product
quality through conventional and molecular approaches. He involved in the
development of 11 wheat varieties and 26 trait specific genetic stocks which
have the potential use for wheat quality improvement. He successfully handled
three foreign aided projects as PI. His research is largely focused in the
development of high yielding wheat varieties with improved quality attributes
by combining conventional and molecular tools like genomic selection, MARS, MAS
and GWAS to dissect complex traits in wheat. Published more than 30 research
and review articles of national and international repute with high impact
factor.
Dr. Reddy was conferred
with Young Scientist Award by All India Agricultural Students Association in
2020; Best Worker Award by ICAR-Indian Institute of Wheat and Barley Research
in 2020; Young Scientist Award by National Education Empowerment and
Development Foundation in 2021. Dr. Reddy has rich experience on wheat research
over a decade including international exposure to USA, Mexico, and Bangladesh.

Genetics and Plant Breeding has great pleasure in presenting the 8th Dr. V.S.
Mathur Memorial Award to Dr. Gopalareddy K for his outstanding contributions in
wheat improvement.
