Abstract

Apple (Malus x domestica Borkh.) is an important crop of temperate region of the world. In India, the apple cultivation is confined to Western Himalayas comprising hilly areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttaranchal and to some extent in north-eastern states like Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Nagaland, Meghalaya and Nilgiri Hills of Tamil Nadu. Keeping in view the importance of divergence the present study was carried out to isolate the elite types so that they could be used as parents for hybridization to meet out the future needs.
