Abstract

Monosomic analysis conducted on a wheat-rye recombinant (Sel- 26) to assign major genes for yield and yield attributing characters to its specific chromosomes byemployingChinese Spring monosomic series revealed that chromosomes 3A, 3D and 4A of Sel-26 carry genes which enhance yield while 6B harbours genes which decrease the yield. Chromosomes SA, 5B and 6B of Sel- 26 have majorrecessive genes for low seed weight along with minorgenes in 4B, 4D, 5D and 70. It was indicated that grains per spike increased due to genes on chromosome 6B and reduced by those on chromosome 5B. Two chromosomes, 4A and 4B, carry genes for higher tiller number in Sel-26.
