Abstract

Breeding. behaviour of paImanIsa {Cymbopogon IIJIU1ilJii1 studied in self, cross and open poIIiDations. The Itermapbrodite Bowers ooosdtuted only 2S to3S% of the IIoreCs in an inf10rescence and the rest were staminate 1IoreCs. PoIIea fertility varied from 84 to 96% in staminate and bermapllrodite IIoreCs. The seed set _ 15% in self, 50% in cross, and 64% in open poUiDatioDs. Few pollen tubes were noticed to traverse inside stigma and penetrate tbrough the styIar region under seIf-poIIInatiGa. Low seed set on seItiDg may 1M: due to some self-incompatibility system in paImanIsa.
