Genetic diversity in mungbean [ Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek] and related Vigna spp. detected by ISSR, URP and SSR markers
Main Article Content
Abstract
Genetic diversity among forty eight Vigna genotypes including 29 Vigna radiata, 6 Vigna radiata var. sublobata, 3 Vigna sylvestris, 4 Vigna mungo, 2 Vigna unguiculata, 3 Vigna umbellata and 1 Vigna trilobata was studied using molecular markers. A total of 144 alleles were amplified using 17 ISSR, 7 URP and 4 SSR markers. PIC value ranged from 0.04 to 0.85. Dendrogram based on Jaccard similarity coefficient and UPGMA analysis revealed seven clusters. Cluster I comprised 2 accessions of Vigna unguicu/ata. Cluster II included three accessions of Vigna umbellata. Vigna mungo and its wild relative Vigna sylvestris were grouped in cluster Ill. Cluster IV, V and VI comprised of Vigna radiata and Vigna radiatavar. sublobata accessions. Sole accession of Vigna trilobata was grouped in cluster VII. The comparison of studied marker systems revealed high marker index for URP indicating their suitability in analysis of inter and intra specific diversity. Furthermore, the narrow genetic base of studied mungbean cultivars/ germplasm lines as evident from cluster V and VI emphasized the need for broadening of genetic base of cultivated mungbean using wild and related species.
